Birthday Party Ideas For Kids: How To Rock The Party!

Birthday Party Ideas For Kids: How To Rock The Party!

Remember how birthdays used to be so much fun, when we were younger? Of course, our idea of parties changes with time, but they are still nowhere even close to those perfect little get-togethers arranged by our loving mothers.

Remember how she went all out, to buy (and at times, make) the perfect cake? The excitement, the decorations in our homes, having all our friends over, eating the most delicious things and playing games; everything just served to make us excited for the next birthday to arrive.

We all want to make our little ones’ birthdays special. Whether or not they remember it when they are older, we sure will. Alas! If it were only a piece of cake, to plan a birthday party!

We’ve all wracked our brains trying to get some new ideas. Here are just some birthday party ideas, which will make your child’s birthday a memorable one. Not to mention, a source of happiness for you.

• Invitations

Design your child’s birthday invitations yourself. Get some card papers, which are available at any stationery store. Find a couple of pictures of teddy bears; cakes etc. from the internet, and get a few prints.

Cut them out, and paste them decoratively on the front of your invitation card. Alternatively, you can get prints of your child’s photograph in a nice pose and paste the cut-outs on the front page. You can even make pop up birthday invitation cards.

These are very simple to make, and you can find how to make them on the internet. Write the simple wordings for inviting kids over on the inside fold. When you write each kid’s name, inviting him or her over, it is all the more personal.

• Menu

It depends upon the age group of children that you are going to invite. Generally it is a mixed bag, with a number of children from different age groups. It doesn’t matter what food you make, there will be children who will polish everything from the plate, and then there will be children who won’t even touch it.

It is better to serve small portions of whatever you are serving. You can simply ask the older children what they want on the menu. This way, you know they will eat it, and not cause wastage.

Remember to keep it as less spicy as possible. Potato chips are a guaranteed winner. Canapés stuffed with corn and chutney mixture, and most of the savory chaat recipes are generally well received. Do not make anything elaborate; it hurts if the children don’t even touch it.

• Themes

You can select a theme for the birthday party. Easy themes for girls are Barbie, Princess, or Cinderella. For boys it could be Prince, Ninja or whichever their favorite cartoon character is.

If it is a Princess or Prince theme, for example, buy a tiara or a crown for your child. You can even make a large crown for the birthday child and smaller ones for the other kids from silver or golden craft paper.

Take-away goody bags can also be made in the shape of shiny pouches. Even games can be altered to fit the theme.

• Games

Have at least a few games, so the kids have a good time. Pinata, pin the tail on the donkey (can be converted to pin the crown on the frog, in case of Princess Theme); a treasure hunt is a good game if you have a bigger space.

You can even invent your own games. Kids will enjoy anything that gives them some stimulation.

• Goody bags

Taking second place in the mommy’s list of the most dreaded questions is what to put in the return-goodies bags (the first place belongs to ‘what to cook for breakfast, lunch and dinner today?’).

Chocolates, is a no-brainer. Small toys, pencil cases, sketch books, and mugs are just some of the ideas. Or you can add a personal touch to them. Get a simple alphabet stencil and a pencil.

Write each kid’s name with the help of the stencil on their gift (mugs, for example) and color the name using acrylic wash proof colors. Neither does it cost much, nor does it require a lot of effort.

Another fantastic idea is to trace a shape, such as a heart or a circle onto say, a pencil box. Get acrylic tube colors to draw an outline. Fill the outlined area with glue. Slowly sprinkle white sand (or rangoli sand) onto the glue.

Once this has set, which takes a few hours, color it with your preferred color. Use a black marker to draw two dots for eyes, and a smile. Your personalized smiley pencil case is complete!

As you can see, it is not very difficult, or expensive to plan a great birthday party. All it requires is a little bit of effort and some creative imagination. Your child will definitely think that you are the coolest mommy.

Isn’t it well worth the effort? So, my dear fellow-mommies, what are you waiting for? Rock the party!
