Conscious Parenting: What Good Can Therapy Do For Your Family?
No family is completely perfect because every one has their own issue to deal with. How the family chooses to deal with it can either make the ties stronger or break the family down.
One good way of dealing and solving issues is by going to family therapy. Good therapy can work wonders. It can make you tighter and stronger and it helps in dealing with problems that the family is going through.
Family therapy is a branch of psychotherapy that works on families to take care of change and development. It helps in changing the view in the system of interaction among family members and it emphasizes the importance of good relationships.
Family therapy has been very effective in dealing with a vast range of dilemmas and many experts believe that all psychological problems can be addressed with this approach.
It mainly uses counseling and many other techniques such as systems theory, relationship education and communication theory. The number of session needed depends on the gravity of the family’s problem.
Therapy sessions would focus more on the relationship patterns that the family has rather than on the unconscious mind. It focuses more on what is going on between the individuals rather than on one family member.
Going to therapy means solving the problem and not just trying to find the root cause of the problem. Merely focusing on the cause will just end up in blaming one or more family members which may cause the problem to remain unsolved.
The benefit of going to therapy is it helps open up and communicate among themselves during therapy. Every member gets the chance to talk and be heard and in return, to listen as well.
But in order for therapy to work, family members should be very willing to listen, open their hearts and minds and change their ways in the family system by learning how to function well and in a healthier manner for the family.
It can help in resolving and get through whatever conflicts they have to have a more functionally family. It is a great way to open communication within the family and improve overall relationships. This is a good way to learn a healthy kind of communication which can strengthen all of you.
Not only does family therapy address the whole family’s issue, it can also be a way to solve issues that individuals have and hide to themselves. It can prevent a member from going through depression which will eventually affect the family as a whole.
In order for a good family therapy to work, members of the family should be willing to participate. This strategy needs commitment, understanding and openness to become more effective. This works on facts and feelings and if one member is unwilling to open up then most probably the issue or the problem will remain unsolved.
When sessions are done, families can maintain the bond that they have created through the sessions by engaging in more activities like going to a massage together.
